Health Alliance Partners has conducted original research with 1600 residents of Silicon Valley to identify factors that differentiate ‘fitness buffs’ from those with sedentary lifestyle habits. The research provides conclusive evidence that psychological factors play a critical role in the development and the maintenance of healthy lifestyle behaviors. Yet these factors are rarely addressed explicitly. 

Our data reveal that over half of all survey respondents are 'less than satisfied' or 'not satisfied' with their current fitness status. Over 90% of that group express motivation to improve their fitness, yet, more than half do not exercise regularly despite the fact that respondents indicate awareness of significant benefits to be derived from regular physical activity.
